Creating a link between entertainment and crime just makes the job of law enforcement so much easier. Rather than just accept that some people just snap and go on rampages for no reason, there is a need to tie everything up nicely at the end of the day. Violence in games is a great scapegoat at closing time.
I like this line by Chief David Hiller, national vice president for the Fraternal Order of Police, in the story:
“Hiller said some officers search for violent video games at crime scenes to present as evidence at trial.”
I don’t think that proves anything. Equating having a violent video game with a crime is the same as saying that just because you have a copy of Mein Kampf on your bookshelf means that you support Nazism. It is ludicrous.
Some people are just bastards - pure and simple. Live with it and move on. Witch hunts went out with the inquisition.
