Definitely a good thing. The only problem with revealing a success like this from lab tests is giving people false hope.
Kind of reminds me of a situation from the middle of the 1950’s where a certain insecticide was found to kill fire ants in a laboratory so affected areas were heavily sprayed and at the end of the spraying, there were more fire ants than at the start of the program.
