Those who know me know that I am a jack of all trades when it comes to the digital world. I’ve done design, digital photography, web development, systems administration, studied a computer science degree, and I am an all-round technophile.
One thing I never got involved in, and for some reason never wanted to, was animation. The idea of it just made me feel anxious and the fiddly nature just always turned me off. That is, until this week.
For almost the entire weekend I spent all of my time locked in a UTS editing lab with Claire working on animation for her film. Firstly, we make an awesome animation team and her film will be great. Secondly, I absolutely love animation and After Effects after the experience.
I am currently in the process of building Claire’s online showreel and it could very well feature some animation work done by the two of us, which I will happily post a link to it here after it’s up. Congratulations to Claire for an awesome job on her film, which by the way is screening tonight! You’ve done great!

Claire is at the Gold Coast for the entire week for the Australian University Games. I kept saying to myself, “she is coming back in 8 days,” forgetting that 2 days have already passed. So the geek in me downloaded an OS X Widget to keep track of when she is coming back.
I can’t wait!
As you’ll know if you read my blog or follow my Twitter, last Thursday (September 6th) was my birthday. It was seriously a great week and turning 25 wasn’t half as scary as I thought it might be, but it’s all due to the care and consideration of my wonderful girlfriend, Claire.
On Friday night of last week I asked Claire a very important question; I asked her if she would take our relationship to the next level. The question that I asked her was if she would be my internet girlfriend as well as my real-life girlfriend. That’s right, we’re now cyber-dating as well. The next step.
Now, this may sound weird, but my blog and various other geek haunts I frequent, have long been considered “Mitch’s Domain”. Claire had always considered posting comments to my blog, or replying to my Twitters, to be something that was just a bit out of reach for us and something she wasn’t comfortable with.
So during my birthday week, Sunday was possibly the best day. We got Claire’s blog rolling along it’s final steps, installed Twitterific onto her Macbook and got everything running to successfully place her in geek mode. Be sure to check out her writing, photography, film work or musings over at 19hundred.com and be sure to say hi if you’re a twitter member.
